Attention Men…

Men now make up 29 percent of all spa-goers Wednesday, Sep 7 2005

Introducing the New Men’s Facial at Blue Medical Beauty Spa

According to the International Spa
Association, men now make up 29 percent of all spa-goers. But with its mod
lounge vibe and gender-neutral futuristic decor, Blue Medical Beauty Spa in
Los Angeles breaks the record with more than 35 percent male clientele. To
celebrate, Blue will launch the Metropoli-Man Facial in September.
“Like women, men are beginning to realize that when they take the time to
invest in their appearance with services such as facials, laser hair removal
and laser treatments, they see results in their skin — as well as in their
professional and personal lives,” says Blue Spa owner Ronda Hawara.
The Blue Metropoli-Man Facial utilizes the Innovation Skincare system of
skincare products, including the new Treatment Sunscreen, which blocks UVA/UVB
rays as it moisturizes the skin. The facial takes 45 minutes ($75).
“A man’s skin is significantly thicker than a woman’s and requires
stronger products,” Hawara adds. “By using glycolic for its versatility in
combating both dry and acne conditions and serum-based products that penetrate
to the deepest layers of the skin, this facial yields dramatic results without
a tell-tale shine — a benefit men greatly appreciate.”
As a special promotion, through the end of the year patrons who purchase a
massage ($95) or basic facial ($100) will receive 25 percent off of the
purchase of the Blue Metropoli-Man Facial.

Blue Spa has been at the forefront of the medical beauty spa movement
since it opened in July 2003. Celebrity regulars include Virginia Madsen,
Toni Braxton, Shannon Elizabeth and Nikki Cox.
Located in the classic art deco La Reina Theater in Sherman Oaks, CA, Blue
Spa stands alone in its ability to deliver state-of-the-art medical beauty
treatments such as Laser Hair and Tattoo Removal, Titan(R) Face + Body Lift,

relaxing traditional spa treatments such as facials, massages, waxing,
manicures and makeovers. Featuring a retro-futuristic design with neon lit
walls and amoeba settees, Blue also offers a juice bar, DJ, meditation room,
makeup counter and manicure lounge.

Cynosure’s New Apogee Elite(TM) Laser Selected by Romeo & Juliette Laser Hair Removal Center in Manhattan; The Center Sees Rapid Growth in Demand with Men Making Up 60% of Clients.

CHELMSFORD, Mass., May 18 /PRNewswire/ — Cynosure, Inc., a leading developer of laser and light-based solutions for aesthetic medicine, announced today that Romeo & Juliette Laser Hair Removal Center has selected Cynosure’s new Apogee Elite(TM) “2-in-1″ hair removal laser for the Center’s East 57th Street location in Manhattan.

“New York is a very diverse community with people from all over the world. Because our center is devoted exclusively to laser hair removal, we want to be able to treat everyone who might inquire about treatments, regardless of skin or hair type,” said Christian Karavolas, Romeo & Juliette’s director. “Having a laser like the Apogee Elite allows us to treat the entire spectrum of skin and hair, no matter the amount of pigment (melanin), especially when we add the SmartCool(TM).” SmartCool is Cynosure’s skin-cooling system that provides the ultimate in comfort for cosmetic laser treatments.

“Laser hair removal in New York City is growing exponentially,” Karavolas continued, speaking in Romeo & Juliettes’s Romanesque interior design setting. “Sixty percent of our clients are men between the ages of 25 and 40, who come to us for treatments of the back, chest, arms and even private parts. Women are typically between 23 and 35 and request facial, bikini, leg and underarms treatments. Three of our clients are triplets, each of whom is having nearly identical full-body treatments.”

“Our Cynosure hair removal lasers are so effective that we offer a guarantee with results based on age, skin and hair types, and health. We are even effective in treating tanned skin during the summer months.”

Michael R. Davin, Cynosure President and CEO, added: “In 2003 laser hair removal was second in popularity only to Botox(R) treatments, according to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), and, from the interest we have seen, we anticipate the number to be over 1 million treatments this year. It is important that we develop lasers that allow everyone, regardless of gender, nationality, race or age, to be treated, and we are pleased that Romeo & Juliette is benefiting from our technological advances.”

New Fix for Hair Removal Now Available With the EpiLight(TM) From ESC Medical Systems

NEEDHAM, Mass., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ — The new EpiLight(TM) Hair Removal System from ESC Medical Systems safely and effectively eliminates unwanted hair of all colors anywhere on the body for skin types I through V, ranging from lighter to darker complexions. The non-invasive hair removal treatment system was recently cleared for market in the United States by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The EpiLight Hair Removal System uses patented intense pulsed light energy to effectively destroy undesired hair while reducing potential side effects. Known as photo-epilation, the EpiLight method requires that the pulsed light penetrate deeply enough and with sufficient energy to damage the hair follicles without harming the surrounding skin tissue. The EpiLight’s versatile design is based on the same patented technology as the successful PhotoDerm(R) VL/PL for the treatment of benign vascular and pigmented lesions.

For the patient, hair removal using the EpiLight System means excellent results, faster treatment time and minimal discomfort. For the physician, the device’s innovative technology allows him/her to customize treatment parameters to the particular body area, specific hair color and exact skin type of the patient. This capability is largely due to the EpiLight’s unique capacity to select a wide range of treatment parameters such as spectral output, pulse structure and pulse duration. This approach provides the physician and the patient with important clinical benefits over existing hair removal methods like electrolysis, waxing, depilatories or laser procedures.

“In one treatment with the EpiLight, we have obtained excellent immediate results on a large number of hairs with minimal side effects,” says Michael Gold, M.D., who conducted clinical trial studies on the EpiLight. “Many of my patients have spent a lifetime battling unwanted hair growth and have unsuccessfully tried other hair removal methods, such as electrolysis and lasers. The EpiLight gives them renewed hope,” notes Dr. Gold, who is a cosmetic dermatologic surgeon in Nashville, Tenn.

The initial FDA clinical study protocol examined more than 100 male and female patients who were treated once to remove unwanted hair on the chin, mustache, neck, trunk, bikini line, arm and leg. More than 200 anatomical sites were monitored for a period of twelve weeks following treatment. A transparent cooling gel was applied to the treated area prior to light exposure, and no local anesthesia was administered. Study results showed EpiLight treatment kept most hair at bay for 3 months after a single treatment.

Owing to its nonlaser principles of operation, the EpiLight Hair Removal System overcomes several critical limitations inherent in laser systems. Distinct from lasers which are set at a fixed wavelength, the EpiLight uses a wide spectrum of wavelengths and pulse widths. In particular, it offers the physician an adjustable broad wavelength range, unique light pulse capabilities, and a large spot size. The device’s larger spot size means it can cover more area faster and in fewer treatment sessions. These unrivaled features and specifications provide optimum versatility and maximum flexibility to remove all hair colors from all body parts on most skin types quickly and efficiently.

“At one year follow-up with only several treatment sessions, we have achieved safe and effective hair removal with minimal discomfort and minimal recovery time,” states Drs. Margaret A. and Robert A. Weiss, associate professors of dermatology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. “Before the EpiLight, removal of dense hair from huge areas, like the back, was impossible. Now, the extremely large footprint of each pulse allows rapid treatment of large body surfaces. We are delighted to be able to offer our patients an exciting new solution for unwanted bodyhair.”

The scientific foundation underlying the EpiLight Hair Removal System is the principle of selective photothermolysis in which EpiLight’s intense pulsed light is converted into heat when it is absorbed by melanin. Melanin is the most significant chromophore in hair which absorbs light. When light is absorbed in the hair follicle, hair shaft or the bulb, it raises their temperature. Once the temperature reaches a high enough level, the targeted hair structures are destroyed and hair regrowth is impaired.

EpiLight Hair Removal System is manufactured by ESC Medical Systems Ltd of Yokneam, Israel. Marketing and clinical support for the U.S. market are provided by ESC Medical Systems Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary in Needham, Mass. At present, there are more than 100 EpiLight Systems installed in clinics worldwide.
